Sales & Marketing 2016 Salary Guide

Marlon Mai January 28, 2016 2 mins read

Compared with 2014, multinational companies have lost some market share, especially in the manufacturing and industrial sector. Chinese companies are moving very fast in terms of technology and product quality development; and the sales and marketing function is still very active within the B2B sector. Overall, Morgan McKinley see a growing number of professionals seeking opportunities within domestic companies in 2016

As economic growth continues to decline from 8% to 6.9%, companies are extending the interview process, as they adopt a more conservative approach. Many of our senior contacts in commerce and industry are opting to maintain their business operating strategy, choosing not to look at aggressive business development strategies. It is expected that 2016 will be a booming year for recruitment across the industrial and manufacturing sector.

The industrial sales and marketing sector is still very male dominated, and many of the roles require frequent business travel.

Chinese professionals with fluency in both Mandarin and English are highly sought-after. Language skills and cultural awareness are key to being successful in the China market. Individuals with overseas work experience or those educated overseas are also in high demand, especially those with an MBA.

A growing number of Chinese professionals are being promoted into global management roles or regional positions. This often means relocating to Europe, U.S.A. or Singapore.

Salaries vary significantly across industrial sales and marketing. Professionals seeking a higher salary or bonus need to obtain additional higher education degrees, in combination with a strong work ethic, and the ability to perform under pressure. Individuals are required to have good strategic thinking in order to find success in an increasingly sophisticated business environment.
